What did I learned that was helpful and interesting?
- Overall I like the idea of not having to "do" anything - just peruse the information.
- I like the human-ness of the flicker photos and the videos, people sharing their view of the world. Some of the videos are obviously commercial but there are also local human interest videos like Keremeos Lawnmower racing and fishing at Madden Lake
- The Social Media feed was a pleasant suprise, with odd bits of information from personal blogs and commercial sites. The employment and real estate should be filtered out of the social media feed as they are shown in other feeds. The standard news feed contains stories from both local and provincial sources - with that town's keyword somewhere in the text.
- Employment feeds from eluta give the best value for career postings. Sadly the Federal Government's Job Bank RSS feeds for these regions don't work
- The de.lico.us bookmarks were disappointing, although de.licio.us is the top site for social bookmarking, the focus is on subjects rather than places. Overall less tagged information than I expected. Looking at other tools such as google local and twine to see where people bookmark their favorite places.
- Events, also a bit disappointing, Upcoming! from yahoo is the standard widget and comes with a map but it's not used as well as it could be.
- Twitter is fun, could twitter about a location or be twittering from a location. Combination of both?
